Peter T. Falkner

Peter Falkner has spent over 30 years in translational science bringing medical/surgical concepts from mere thoughts of how to safely solve a problem to completion into the world of medicine. His background and commitment to creating safe, effective, and efficient outcomes has allowed him to enjoy a very successful career in the collaborative medical world of innovation. Peter’s training has allowed him to run clinical animal and human trials globally as well as direct medical training in the areas of anesthesiology, laparoscopy, gynecologic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Peter’s key role in the development of laparoscopy with Dr. William Saye allowed him, as a Clinical Research Scientist, to train over 17,000 surgeons from all over the world at Advanced Laparoscopic Training Center (ALTC) in Marietta, Georgia, for over 9 years. His extensive experience with ALTC and other global medical corporations allowed him to establish loyal relationships with surgeons in the United States and abroad. His background expands from clinical training and concept thinking to multifaceted launches of medical devices.

Peter has written and co-authored multiple articles published in various medical journals. He has been involved with many global corporations as an executive team member directly active in investor relations, strategic planning, business development, regulatory affairs, reimbursement, clinical/surgical trials and training. Peter hails from Auburn University and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. His emphasis has been and continues to be in the areas of clinical/surgical research and translational science. His strong background and training has provided him the honor of collaborating with many world-renowned medical universities in the areas of surgical research and development. Peter is an inventor and designer of medical devices, holding multiple medical patents.

Carla W. Falkner

Carla Falkner is an executive with over 20 years of experience in operations and management of a multi-million dollar corporation in Mobile, Alabama. She is the founder of Innovative Medicine Partners and CEO of BelleFire Records, Nashville, Tennessee.

Carla’s background is key to the oversight of Innovative Medicine Partners, from establishing operations to forging strategic business relationships. Carla is skilled in startup companies and turnarounds, fiscal budgets, contract negotiations and cost management. She provides corporate structure and administration. Carla ensures the company has effective operational and financial procedures in place. She designs and implements business operations by establishing policies that promote company culture and vision.

Carla’s charge is to develop key partnerships and manage the day-to-day operations of the company and its subsidiaries. She works daily on financial decisions and responsibilities. Her vision for Innovative Medicine Partners is to create and maintain a collaborative environment that fosters innovation in all aspects of the corporation.

Carla holds a degree with a double major in Music Performance and Psychology from Faulkner. She was Miss Faulkner (1997-1998). Her accomplishments include “Female Vocalist of the Year” at the New Music Awards in Los Angeles, Member of SESAC Performing Rights Organization, The Country Music Association, The Academy of Country Music, The Nashville Songwriters Association, the Country Music Hall of Fame, National Association of Professional Women and the International Association of Professional Women.

Carla is a co-patent holder and inventor of a novel medical technology in the area of audio and acoustics.

Deneen T. Plessala, M.D., FAAP

Dr. Deneen Plessala brings her extensive research and clinical experience to the Innovative Medicine Partners team. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University and her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She continued her medical training at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama where she completed her pediatric internship and residency in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. After practicing in the pediatric clinics at the Jefferson County Health Department and the Mobile Health Department, she joined Children’s Medical Group in Mobile, Alabama. She is a member of numerous medical societies and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

As Chief Medical Officer of Innovative Medicine Partners, Dr. Plessala is responsible for the comprehensive research necessary to bring an idea for an innovative medical device from concept to fruition. She spends a great deal of time analyzing all available peer reviewed literature to gain a thorough understanding of the problem being investigated, addressing clinical aspects as well as ensuring the patentability and marketability of a particular device. Collaborating with inventors, intellectual property attorneys, and engineers, Dr. Plessala plays a crucial role in the patent application process, design and production of prototypes, and development and analysis of clinical trials. She also works closely with Innovative Medicine Partners’ regulatory department to compile the extensive material required for FDA submission and clearance.

Dr. Plessala is an inventor and co-patent holder of a novel medical device that deals with day-to-day patient care.

Kirby J. Plessala, M.D., FACOG

Dr. Plessala is a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist with over 30 years of clinical experience. A native of Morgan City, Louisiana, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center. He continued his medical training, completing his obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency with the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident. In 1994, he joined Mobile OB-GYN, PC in Mobile, Alabama, where he continues his active practice. Dr. Plessala holds a certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of numerous medical associations, including the American Medical Association, Mobile Bay OB-GYN Society, Mobile County Medical Society, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He also serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physician Assistant Studies with the University of South Alabama.

Dr. Plessala has extensive research experience and has been published in The Journal of Infectious Disease and the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has participated in over forty clinical Phase II, III, IV, and Device trials, reflecting his widespread interest in all aspects of women’s health care. Dr. Plessala is the Chairman of the OB-GYN Department at Providence Hospital and serves on the Providence Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. He has also served on the McGill-Toolen Catholic High School Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Plessala has served as the Chief Scientific Officer of Innovative Medicine Partners for the past four years. In this role, Dr. Plessala has contributed his invaluable knowledge of research to all stages of the development of innovative medical devices. He is the inventor and co-patent holder of several devices in the field of infertility, and he continues to search for innovative solutions for the difficult challenges of today’s health care system in order to provide all patients with a better tomorrow.
