William B. Saye, M.D., FACOG, FACS is an accomplished physician and innovator with an extensive portfolio of patents and technologic advances in the fields of gynecologic and general laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Saye, a native of Madison, Georgia, attended the Georgia Institute of Technology on an athletic scholarship and was a standout on the football team. Following his graduation from Georgia Tech, he attended Tulane University School of Medicine. He served as president of the student body and the honor council at both Georgia Tech and Tulane. Dr. Saye continued his medical training, completing his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Jacksonville, Florida. He also served for two years as a physician in the United States Air Force.
Dr. Saye began his Ob-Gyn practice in Marietta, Georgia, where he practiced until 1987. He took an interest in laparoscopy and discontinued his obstetrics practice to devote his time to the development of laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Saye traveled extensively to learn laparoscopic techniques from experts throughout the world. He formed a surgical team with Dr. Barry McKernan and the two of them subsequently performed the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the United States on July 22, 1988. Dr. Saye went on to build the Advanced Laparoscopic Training Center, where he trained 17,000 surgeons from around the world to perform laparoscopic surgery, a technique that
has revolutionized the field of surgery. He then spent several years studying stem cell therapy and noninvasive pelvic floor reconstruction.
Dr. Saye is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecologist and is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received the coveted EXCEL Award from the Laparoendoscopic Society in 1998 for his work in the advancement of endoscopic technology. He also received the Tulane University School of Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 for his work in laparoscopy and women’s health. Dr. Saye’s many years of experience and his extensive network of experts in the world of medical research and technology have made him an invaluable addition to Innovative Medicine Partners’ team.
