Zsolt Peter Nagy, born in Hungary, joined Reproductive Biology Associates as Scientific and Laboratory Director in August 2002. He brings to RBA vast experience and expertise in performing and supervising assisted reproduction procedures. Dr. Nagy graduated summa cum laude from the Semmelweis Medical University of Budapest in 1986.He was awarded a Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Free University of Brussels (VUB) in 1991. He went on to obtain a degree in Hospital medicine management at the VUB in 1993, and in 1998 was awarded a Ph.D. degree in biomedical science at VUB. In 1997 he completed his training and obtained a Specialist degree in OB/GYN. In 2003, Dr. Nagy obtained the degree of High Complexity Laboratory Director (HCLD) by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB).
His professional career in assisted reproduction started at the Department of Reproductive Medicine (Brussels University) in 1989, employed as a medical scientist on the team that first developed intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a novel insemination method, now utilized world-wide. Prior to joining the team at Reproductive Biology Associates, he was Scientific Director in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and at the European Hospital in Rome, Italy (1997-2001). During the last two decades, Dr. Nagy was frequently invited to perform international consultations to help improving efficiency of IVF Clinics, including to set up several ICSI laboratories at different points of the world.
Dr. Nagy is a member of several national and international professional societies, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), and serves on various committees of these societies. He has been an invited speaker on hundreds of medical and scientific meetings over the last 15 years. Dr. Nagy has organized and/or chaired over 100 congresses, symposia, and workshops since 1991. He is a scientific reviewer for several peer-reviewed medical journals and Associate Editor of two highly ranked scientific journals: Human Reproduction and Reproductive Biomedicine. Dr. Nagy has authored or co-authored over 200 articles published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals, as well written or edited several books and book chapters.
Dr. Nagy has performed, coordinated and supervised several research projects that have been awarded with national or international grants. Most recently he, with his team, contributed to significant improvements in oocyte cryopreservation using vitrification technology, which led to the establishment of the first highly-efficient donor egg cryo-bank in the United States. The same novel approach now offers a long awaited option for women to preserve their fertility for medical or for social reasons.
